Surprise! Runescape: Dragonwilds early access has pulled a fast one on us and come on out from hiding. Generally, a good rule of thumb for enjoyable experiences is to not mither yourself with early access games and wait for the reviews. That rule still applies, but golly can we not blame you for refusing to wait that long.

Early steam reviews seem to be clear: the game is inspired by the likes of Enshrouded and Valheim, but with a Runescape vibe layered over it. Is it going to be better than those two games in early access? Probably not. Can we wait until finishing this news piece before playing it ASAP? Just barely, yes.

For those who choose to purchase Dragonwilds early access, an early adopters gift gives access to the game soundtrack. Currently, the soundtrack consists of two tracks, “Into the Wild (Main Theme)” and “Wild World To Tame”. Its unclear if the soundtrack access will expand when and if more tracks are added to the game later or if these two tracks are all we’re getting with early access.

The game is currently priced at $30 and beckons all those Abby Whip and Ice Barrage enthusiasts to try it out. Though it should be noted for anyone who hasn’t been keeping up with the games developement: the game is not an MMO, nor is it trying to match the kind of AFK/intensive gameplay of OSRS and RS3. As stated, Runescape: Dragonwilds is more akin to Enshrouded and Valheim than any other game that shares the same name.

Basically, we’re just warning you that Dragonwilds will play much, much differently than OSRS or RS3. Third person survival, truly, doesn’t share too much with overhead MMO clickers functioning on an old-fashion tick system. Yes, we’re aware that this news will shock some readers.
