Oldschool Runescape just got a nifty little QoL change to the way autocasting works. Previously, players with a spell selected (and an appropriate magic weapon), would automatically cast that spell so long as they had the magic level and runes required to do so.

Upon lowering their magic level too much or running out of runes for the spell, players would then lose their autocast selection, causing them to run into their foes at melee range.

Instead of running to the fence, we receive a message after using all runes

With a new update, Jagex has changed this function so that players who cannot cast their selected autocast spell (for any reason) default to holding still, receiving a message about their inability to cast the spell.

This will cause those accidental mishaps during boss fights a little less common. And as a neat bonus, pure skillers can keep their autocast on without the runes to cast any spells to guarantee no combat XP is ever gained on accident.
