Laptop Manufacturer Framework is delaying the release of two modular laptops containing the Ryzen Ultra 5 125H and Ryzen 5 7640U. As per their tweet announcing the news, Framework states,
We priced our laptops when tariffs on imports from Taiwan were 0%. At a 10% tariff, we would have to sell the lowest-end SKUs at a loss. Other consumer goods makers have performed the same calculations and taken the same actions, though most have not been open about it.
A few consumers have wondered whether or not it would be wiser to simply release the laptops with a higher price model, while others are accepting that recent shakeups in the world economy are resulting in delays for products that were otherwise due to be released soon.
As of April, 2025, Tarrifs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump altered just about everything to do with anything in the tech world. GPU Giant NVIDIA has seen stock dips and rebounds, gaming company Nintendo have indefinitely paused the release of the Switch 2 in the U.S., and Intel’s in-house semiconductor fabrication plants are suddenly the bee’s knees for investors.
For smaller companies like Framework, these shakeups can be lethal.
