Abberrant Spectres are a fairly straightforward task that can reward the player with plenty of herbs, seeds, and consistent slayer XP. Here’s a 30 second guide on how to take these slayer tasks on effectively.

If all you want is the quick 30 second rundown:

• Fight them in the Gnome Stronghold Slayer Cave
• Wear a Nose peg or a Slayer Helm
• Wear Prayer Bonus Gear and Pray Mage or
• Wear anti-mage gear, such as Dragon Hides.
• Bring an Herb Sack and Seed Box
• Good luck

Firstly, a Word of Warning:

You’re going to need a nose peg or a combined slayer helm. One of these two items is absolutely necessary when fighting Aberrant Spectres. Without them, you’ll be struck for high amounts of damage through prayer and, more importantly, your combat stats will be drained rapidly

Wear a nose peg or a slayer helm.

Secondly, be Pragmatic:

Understand that Abberant Spectres are a “resource drain” monster. They hit consistently enough that if you don’t use Protect from Mage, you will be using quite a lot of food during tasks. If you do use Protect from Mage, you will be draining a lot prayer points along your task instead of food, which mean you’ll be draining your prayer potions.

But there’s a way to turn this into a benefit with the Aberrant Spectre’s drop table:

Herbs and Seeds are a common theme among the AS’s drops. Among which include fairly common Rannars, the herb ingredient in prayer potions. For every 100 Spectres you kill, you, on average, will recieve roughly 10 Rannars. In short, you can spend 10 prayer potions on 100 Spectres and come out even.

To do this, opt for prayer bonus gear, such as Proselyte Armor, and lean into the slightly lower DPS gear for a great value per prayer point. If possible bring a holy wrench with your to squeeze more value out of your potions, and watch as the resources you use per task evens out and, eventually, profit.

Lastly, Go All In:

There are three things you must do to optimize your Aberrant Spectre tasks.

• Unlock Bigger and Badder ASAP from any slayer master to enable the ability to spawn superior monsters. Each Superior monster spawned grants a VERY high amount of slayer XP and has a strong, profitable drop table. Since Aberrant Spectres have a chance to spawn them, it follows naturally that you’ll want this unlocked during their tasks.

• Get an Herb Sack and a seed box. Whether unlocked through slayer or tithe farm, the herb sack will enable you to extend your trips while picking up more and more herbs without sacrificing inventory space. The same can be said for the seed box. On a spectre task, they are invaluable.

• If possible, use a cannon. The Gnome Stronghold Slayer Cave allows for cannon usage, so maximize your combat and slayer XP by bringing one. With a Seedbox and an Herb Sack, the cost of cannonballs is more than paid for each task. For ironmen, of course, this process becomes less viable as you have to craft each cannonball yourself.
