EFT just got a new wipe, and with it came the long-awaited patch .15 that brings a whole host of new (and reworked) content. Factory has been reworked, ammunition has been re-balanced, and a new boss has been introduced to the game.
The new boss, Partisan, is described by BSG as a grenade-wielding, trap-setting, stealthy boss that can hunt down players who tend to behave in “low karma” ways.
“The Boss appears in forest-type locations. He is more likely to appear in a raid with low karma PMCs. In this case, Partisan will hunt those players down. If there are Scavs with low karma in the raid, they will also become his targets. However, any player has to be ready for the traps and expect a firefight when encountering this Boss, regardless of their karma.” -BSG
The karma system, another new feature making its debut in patch .15, is kept intentionally vague. Generally, the karma system is made to punish players who play in “closed” ways while players who play in “open” ways maintain high karma (which is a stat that shall remain secret).
One could summarize “open” and “closed” play with “Chadding” and “Camping”, where the latter tends to be unfun to play against. The introduction of the boss might, in theory, reduce camping, since campers will be met with a tough fight at the start of some raids, but might also have the opposite effect:
Since some campers are genuinely incredible players, they might opt to purposely lower their karma to farm Partisan, creating a strange dichotomy wherein players are actually encouraged to have low-karma accounts just for the fun of it.
Escape from Tarkov’s August wipe and patch .15 goes live today, August 20th, 2024. Good luck in those raids, gentlemen.
