If you like grinding and WWII-era vehicles then, yes, you should play War Thunder in 2024.

War Thunder exhibits some of the most consistent gameplay out of any highly monetized F2P games on the market today. Gaijin Entertainment, the game’s developer, opts for a very slow balance methodology that lets the game breathe for quite a while before seeing any changes. This is partly due to the fact that the game is expansive enough to make touching every aspect of it at once unreasonably difficult, but is also simply due to the simple truth that adjusting historical machines, which are all made with simulator-level accuracy in mind, for the sake of balancing is pretty much impossible without sacrificing realism.

This is why Gaijin opts for the Battle Rating method of balance: instead of two tanks which were made in the same era battling it out, two tanks of a similar arbitrary power level battle it out instead. So when you’re little 1944 tank finds itself up against a 1950s-era tank, you can bet that tank isn’t all it was cracked up to be at the time of its creation (or you’ve been uptiered, good luck).

As it pertains to the community, one could expect a bustling game fleshed out with tons of players that make for quick matchmaking. This is true for air battles, ground battles, but less so for naval battles, which has always been a game mode that struggles to keep a consistent playbase for one reason or another.

Once you’re into a game, the tightrope walk of balancing your intrigue in learning your vehicles and unlocking new vehicles through solid gameplay begins. This is the real reason most people play War Thunder and is what keeps players coming back for more:

The Reason You Should Play War Thunder

In-game, matches are fun and skill testing. Skill itself is made up less of reflexes and physical speed with a mouse (or controller) and more of experience and good decision-making. Once you have a decent match, you leave the game to see your after-match statistics. Lion acquisition and research points are given to you to spend on ammunition, new vehicles, and crew member upgrades, repeat.

This cycle of solid gameplay to fund your satisfying grind which in turn results in more fun gameplay is why you should play War Thunder in 2024. Naturally, there will be some players who prefer playing a couple of their favorite vehicles, while others care less about the actual gameplay than they do about grinding out their tree (OSRS players rejoice?), but most players will get hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of enjoyment out of both.
