The thing about cheating in Escape From Tarkov is that if you play it cool, you can pretty much get away with doing it for years.
The nature of cheating in that game can change based on the intentions of the user, but generally speaking all manners of cheating ruin the game for everyone who isn’t. Sometimes, a player who is particularly needy will run wall-hacks alongside aimbots and a loot absorption-thingy.
That last one might be a new term for those of you familiar with only generic forms of cheating you might find in an FPS like Counter-Strike. Given that EFT is an FPS combined with a loot and resource management title, some players have taken to cheating in all aspects of that genre’s definition. In this way, players have managed to create cheats that are not only, seemingly, undetectable for BSG, but also allow players to simply loot up the high value areas around the entire map at once.
I had a cheater in my game, for instance, who could do this, but only with containers. This meant that loot that was on the ground was unobtainable from a distance for the cheater. I looked through various weapon boxes near my spawn to find that they were all empty. Next to them, a whole physical bitcoin: one of the most expensive items in the game.
I quickly picked it up and stuffed in a container that lets you keep items you die with.

“Damn, if there really is a cheater in this game, he must be fuming!” I jokingly said to myself. And sure enough, not 2 seconds later, footsteps approached my hidden, quiet position and threw a grenade directly at me. The cheater, who apparently knew there was a high value item on the ground but could do nothing about it, really was fuming.
This guy was obvious, this guy was looting containers he wasn’t near, and this guy is almost certainly still playing the game because BSG, Tarkov’s developer, doesn’t seem to be able to control the problem at all.
The worst part is I know for a fact that this is just the first time I noticed this happen to me. Generally speaking, I don’t assume I’m being cheated against. Every death, every time someone beats me to loot, I just chalk it up to them being better (and most people are better than I). But here?
How many times has loot in high value rooms been swiped from me without me knowing? How about opponents who have wall-hacks, but no aimbot, leave me convinced they are a genuine player? This probably happens way, way too often. And, frankly, the experience of having a blatant cheater almost take away a high value item from me right in front of my face was miserable enough to get me to call it quits.
I enjoy Escape From Tarkov, but at the moment I just can’t justify the time sink when there is a good chance each lobby will be tainted by hackers. Maybe next wipe. Maybe single player Tarkov? Maybe?
