Runescape 3 Just Might be Worth Playing at This Point

Rs3 Roadmap

It was in January of this 2026’eth year that Jagex officially removed Treasure Hunter from their “flagship” version of Runescape. While they didn’t completely remove MTX from the game entirely (as I had been initially led to believe,) it’s still worth setting aside some praise for Jagex, as their commitment to making the game’s integrity stronger (and their willingness to get ahead of England’s anti-gambling laws in gaming) means that RS3 is ultimately in a stronger spot now than it was a year ago.

The thing is, the level of improvement RS3 is seeing isn’t just because of the Treasure Hunter removal. RS3 has made a number of positive changes to not only its content roster, but also to general health and quality of life, separate from Treasure Hunter. Seasonal additions to the game like “Leagues” and “fresh start worlds”, which OSRS made famous, make the game one that can be enjoyed over the short-term in unique and temporary ways, while Jagex’s construction overhaul, released on the 13th of January, completely added new functionality and 21 extra levels to train, bringing the cap up to 120, alongside those content additions like quest introductions, new bosses, and locales, has created a whole that is catching this pessimistic gamer’s eye.

I’ll let you in on a wittle secwet: I’m working on an OSRS video. It’s gunna be a monster; I’ve recorded about 800 gigs worth of footage so far, and I’ve got roughly 200-400 hours worth of gameplay that still need grinding. Storage expenses notwithstanding, I love OSRS. I genuinely think it’s the greatest MMO ever created, and I wouldn’t ever put RS3 above it. At least, not in RS3’s current state.

All of that said, there are parts of myself that grow a little bit jealous when I’m grinding away on OSRS and I see RS3 just chillin‘. You’re telling me there’s this skill called invention where I can recycle old, unused items to unlock bonuses to my current weapons? You’re telling me there’s a whole skill that’s mostly afk, that revolves around lore n’ stuff? You’re telling me I can summon beasts to help me PvM? The God Wars Dungeon is considered fairly easy boss content, hello? No Treasure Hunter? No big dumb stupid cosmetic items to pull me out of the immersion? I know what people are wearing? 50% or more off my car insurance?

I wanna tryyyyyyy. The thing is, my biggest problem has always been focus. The focus required to commit to a project every single day without hitting a run of a week or two where I just lost the will to power through and finish a script, or record extra footage, or get the voice overs done, or bite the editing bullet: focus is my issue, which is the main reason my channel has such a large gap between videos.

Consistency is key, and RS3, today, is the game that is most trying that virtue.
